Troy plays App State on Friday

On Thursday, the Troy University baseball team lost a close game in the Sun Belt Conference tournament to Southern Mississippi. On Friday they will get another chance when they play App State in Montgomery to advance to the weekend.

Southern Miss scored 3 runs in the eighth inning Thursday after finding themselves down 5 to 3 to Troy after seven innings.

First baseman Will Butcher and 2 hits in 5 at bats for the Trojans and scored 1 run. Ethan Thomas also scored for Troy. Thomas had 1 hit in his four at-bats.

Skyler Meade is the head coach of the Trojans.

"Credit to Southern Miss for being disciplined there late," said Meade. "This one stings."

This is a double elimination tournament, so Troy gets will play on Friday at 3:00 p.m.

The Sun Belt Conference Tournament is in Montgomery at Riverwalk Stadium.

That game will be followed by James Madison versus Old Dominion at 6:30 p.m.

Friday's winners will advance to Saturday to play Southern Miss and Georgia Southern. The Sun Belt Conference championship game will be held on Sunday in Montgomery.

The Sun Belt Conference baseball tournament games are all streaming at ESPN+.

The NCAA baseball playoffs will begin next week.
