The people's voice of reason
The University of Tennessee Volunteers baseball team was the best team in the Southeastern Conference all season and the championship game was no different. Tennessee beat the LSU Tigers on Sunday 4 to 3 to win the SEC Baseball Tournament title tilt at the Hoover Met in Hoover, Alabama.
Tennessee with the win secured an automatic berth in the NCAA baseball tournament.
The Volunteers improve to 50 and 11 on the year.
LSU was down 4 to 1, but had a late rally in the ninth inning to pull the game to 4-3 – ultimately falling short.
With the win Tennessee improves to 11 and 5 overall in the SEC Tournament under head baseball coach Tony Vitello. This is the Volunteers third SEC Championship game appearance in just the last four years.
"Multiple guys did some special things," Vitello said. "The tournament overall was outstanding, in part because LSU is the hottest team in the country right now and they didn't stop today in my opinion. They played really good ball. They just ran out of time. That thing was very hairy down to the end."
Tennessee has been named the host of this weekend's NCAA Knoxville Regional.
