The people's voice of reason
The University of Alabama baseball team will play the University of Central Florida on Friday in Tallahassee in the NCAA regional playoffs hosted by Florida State. The Tide is the number two seed in the region. UCF is the number three seed.
The two will play at Dick Howser Stadium on the campus of Florida State University. The game is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. CDT. The game will be televised on ESPN+.
Alabama baseball's head Coach is Rob Vaughn.
"Credit goes to these kids," said Coach Vaughn. "To get a post season appearance is awesome."
This is Vaughn's first year with the Tide. He is the 33rd baseball coach in UA's history.
"We are excited to get to Tallahassee and compete against three other real good teams," said Vaughn, "I think we came here with a vision to do things that haven't been done since the 90s and this group has laid the foundation."
The Tide lost in the opening round of the SEC tournament; but were one of a record 11 Southeastern Conference teams that received invites to play in the 64 team NCAA playoff field.
This is the 27th time in program history that Alabama has advanced to the NCAA regionals.
Florida State is playing Stetson. The loser of the Alabama and Central Florida game will play the loser of the Florida State and Stetson game; while the two winners will play each other. This is a double elimination regional. The winner of the region will advance to play in the super regionals next week. FSU is the number eight team in the country, thus is the favorite to win the region and advance.
"Anything can happen in the postseason," said Vaughn. "I think you have to play one game at a time. You can't put the cart before the horse. This is a real good Central Florida team. You can't get caught looking ahead to Florida State."
Vaughn previously was the head coach at the University of Maryland where he was the Big 10 Coach of the Year in 2023 and 2022.
