Air Force Brigadier General Terrence A. Adams will give the commencement address to Auburn University Montgomery (AUM) on Saturday, May 3. Adams will speak to nearly 620 graduates during a pair of ceremonies at the AUM Athletics Complex. This is the largest graduating class in the history of AUM.
General Adams serves in the Pentagon as the Deputy Principal Cyber Advisor (DPCA) to the Secretary of Defense and Senior Military Advisor for Cyber Policy. Gen. Adams earned a bachelor's degree in computer information systems from AUM in 1994.
AUM will recognize graduates of its University College, as well as the Colleges of Business and Liberal Arts & Social Sciences, at 10 a.m. The Colleges of Education, Nursing & Health Sciences, and Sciences will celebrate their graduates at 2 p.m.
Gen. Adams serves as the principal advisor to the Secretary on military cyber forces and activities. He is also responsible for assessing and overseeing the implementation of the cyber strategy of the Department of Defense and execution of the cyber posture review of the department on behalf of the Secretary.
Adams is a native or Tuskegee. He actually enlisted in the Army as a private (E-1) after high school. After serving in the Army for six years, he entered the Air Force through the Reserve Officer Training Corps at Alabama State University (Detachment 019) after graduating from AUM.
He has had a distinguished career as an officer in Air Force. He commanded six times at the squadron, group, and wing levels, including three commands while deployed. Most recently, he served as Commander 628th Air Base Wing, and Commander of Joint Base Charleston, South Carolina. Adams deployed to Seeb Air Base, Oman, Kirkuk AB, Iraq, Ali AB, Iraq, and Al Udeid AB, Qatar, in support of operations Southern Watch, Iraq Freedom, Enduring Freedom, New Dawn, and Combined Joint Task Force Horn of Africa. He has held a variety of positions at squadron, group, wing, major command, air staff and joint levels.
Before his current position, Gen. Adams was the Director of Cyberspace Operations and Warfighter Communications for the Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff for Intelligence, Surveillance, Reconnaissance, and Cyber Effects Operations at the Pentagon.
