Britt slams Biden for imperiling the American dream

On Thursday, President Joseph R. Biden (D) addressed the nation in a state of the union speech he hopes will galvanize support for him and his policy agenda, ease concerns about his age and fitness for the office and propel him to re-election on November 5. Republicans chose U.S. Senator Katie Britt (R-Alabama) to give the GOP response.

Britt warned that the American dream would be imperiled if the nation continues its current course.

"The country we know, and love seems to be slipping away," the conservative Senator from Alabama said. "I worry my own children may not even get a shot at living their American Dreams. The true, unvarnished State of our Union begins and ends with this: Our families are hurting. Our country can do better."

Republicans are hoping to capitalize on people's anxieties about the border and the flood of immigrants that Biden's policies have unleashed, and Britt hammered the point.

"Minutes after taking office, he suspended all deportations, halted construction of the border wall, and announced a plan to give amnesty to millions," said Britt. "President Biden's border crisis is a disgrace. It's despicable. And it's almost entirely preventable."

For the millions of Americans who live paycheck to paycheck rising interest rates combined with the highest inflation in four decades it has become difficult for them to live the lifestyle that their parents enjoyed even when they have jobs.

"The American people are scraping by while the President proudly proclaims Bidenomics is working!" Britt said.

Britt warned of the dangers of the rising crime rates.

"From our small towns to America's most iconic city streets, life is getting more and more dangerous," Britt claimed.

Britt also touched on foreign affairs,

"From abandoning allies in his disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan... to desperately pushing another dangerous deal with Iran, President Biden has failed," Brit said. "We've become a nation in retreat. And the enemies of freedom see an opportunity." "The free world deserves better than a dithering and diminished leader."

Congressman Robert Aderholt (R-Haleyville) praised Sen. Britt for her response.

"In stark contrast to Biden's tired policies, Alabama's own Senator Katie Britt provided a brighter, more energetic, and hopeful vision for this nation," Rep. Aderholt said. "A vision where men and women are free to build lives with less government regulation, without government indoctrinating our children, and without crippling inflation eating away their paychecks. Senator Britt didn't just give a response to the State of the Union, she gave the "true" State of our Union."

"In tonight's speeches, we saw two different Americas," Aderholt continued. "We saw one America that is tied to old, failed policies that stoke division and certainly do not foster a culture of life, and an America that is hopeful and optimistic, while also grounded on our founding principles of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness."

Former State Rep. Perry O. Hooper Jr. (R-Montgomery) told the Alabama Gazette that Britt set a much different tone than the angry partisan speech of President Biden.

"Biden's speech was very disappointing," said Hooper. "He turned the State of the Union speech into a Democrat rally against President Trump. He certainly did not come across as presidential. He came across as an angry old man. I was really horrified when he dressed down the US Supreme Court. After tonight, I believe President Trump's polling will show him up over 10 points. The highlight of the night was Senator Katie Britt's Republican response. Every American should be proud of Katie."

The Wall Street Journal reported that Republican leaders chose Britt to give their response, because they know that they know that women, particularly young college-educated women, are an area where polling shows that Biden has a significant advantage. Britt is the only woman among the six Republican Senators who are younger than 50 years of age.

"Senator Britt was the perfect person to highlight the problems with Joe Biden and the Democrat establishment," said Alabama Republican Party Chairman John Wahl in a statement. "We literally saw the youngest female senator in the nation giving the rebuttal to the oldest sitting president in U.S. history. Her commonsense, conservative voice reached younger voters, female voters, and minority voters like no one else could have. We are fortunate to have a representative like Senator Britt in Washington, DC who fearlessly advocates for the values of the Republican Party. Her response reflects not only her dedication to the people of Alabama but also her unwavering commitment to the principles that made this nation great. The Alabama Republican Party is proud of her accomplishments and knows first-hand just how well deserved this opportunity was."
