The people's voice of reason
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (APR 2, 2024) – The University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH) has earned a 2024-2025 Military Friendly® School designation with a special award in the gold category. UAH is a part of The University of Alabama System.
"We are immensely proud that UAH has been recognized as a military-friendly institution, affirming our steadfast commitment to providing exemplary outcomes and support services to our military community," says UAH Provost Dr. David Puleo. "This designation underscores our dedication to fostering an environment where servicemembers, veterans, and their families can thrive academically and personally."
The UAH Office of Military & Veterans Programs (MVP) serves military veterans and their dependents during their time as students at UAH. The office assists students with applications for veterans' educational benefits to which they may be entitled as a result of their service or dependency status. It also offers resources for transitioning to the institution and encourages participation in programs to help students stay engaged at UAH.
Institutions earning the Military Friendly® School designation were evaluated using both public data sources and responses from a proprietary survey. More than 1,800 schools participated in the 2024-2025 survey with 537 earning special awards for going above the standard. There are four award levels: Top 10; Gold, within 10% of the 10th-ranked organization; Silver, within 20%, and Bronze, within 30%.
Final ratings were determined by combining the institution's survey scores with the assessment of the institution's ability to meet thresholds for student retention, graduation, job placement, loan repayment, persistence (degree advancement or transfer) and loan default rates for all students and, specifically, for student veterans.
"Military Friendly® is committed to transparency and providing consistent data-driven standards in our designation process," says Kayla Lopez, national director of military partnerships, Military Friendly®. "Our standards provide a benchmark that promotes positive outcomes and support services that better the educational landscape and provide opportunity for the military community. This creates a competitive atmosphere that encourages institutions to evolve and invest in their programs consistently. Schools who achieve awards designation show true commitment in their efforts, going over and above that standard."
UAH received notification of the Military Friendly® School designation and gold award in late March. The 2024-2025 Military Friendly® Schools list will be published in the May and October issue of G.I. Jobs magazine, which can be found at MilitaryFriendly.com.
