The people's voice of reason
I am not sure what they are teaching in college these days but I am sure in many cases it is not honor, integrity, critical thinking, wisdom and common sense. I came across this article the other day titled, “The Writing Center at the University of Washington is telling students that expecting Americans to use proper grammar perpetuates racism.” Wha-what??!! I am not even sure where to go with this. But here goes. The writing center is willing to argue that “there is no inherent ‘standard’ of English.” I wanted to go into this a little more deeply but I just couldn’t do it. Go to breitbart.com/tech/2017/02/22/university-of-washington-declares-correct-grammar-is-racist/ for the full idiocy of this story. I am at a loss here. Whenever the liberal left cannot come to grips with reality, their continued fall back stance is “racism.” I for one am tired of hearing their garbage and think they need to revoke Dr. Asoa Inoue’s credentials. By the way, back in 2013, a white professor in San Francisco was accused of being racist because he correctly edited a paper handed in by one of his black students. How dare he insist his students properly use capitalization in their work?
The other day, the wife and I were watching local news and they were interviewing some local high school basketball players. One kid in particular took out his razor sharp samurai sword and did the most complete hack job of the English language I think I have ever heard. Ever! With absolutely no exaggeration, I could not understand A SINGLE WORD this kid said. Not one. I looked at my wife in disbelief, ran the DVR back, played it again and nope, still nothing. Nada. Zip. Zilch. Not a friggen word. Yes, it was embarrassing. I was fully expecting to see subtitles under his chin, but no luck. Now, to top that off, am I, as a black guy, to be considered racist because I realize there is likely no way in heck this kid is going to function successfully in the work place? Do you think if I strolled into my Delta interview and spoke a language supposedly being English but needing a translator, that I would have gotten my job? Not a chance. It is idiots like this U. of Washington professor, in every field, who continues to cripple our kids by continually lowering a bar that currently rests three feet in the mud. Sorry race fans, it is not racist to expect our kids to speak intelligible English.
But to be honest with you, it does not surprise me that the goofballs at U. of Washington are still gumming up their school with stupid ideas. Let’s go back to 2006 when the student government decided not to have a statue of Pappy Boyington displayed at the University. For those of you who do not know about “Pappy” Boyington of Baa Baa Black Sheep Fame, after flying with the legendary Flying Tigers in China, Boyington led Marine Fighter Squadron VMF 214 and was the Marine Corps’ top scoring ace all-time with 28 aerial victories in WWII. Behind his leadership, VMF 214 was arguably the most successful Marine fighter squadron of the war. After being shot down, Boyington spent 20 months as a guest of the Japanese and was subjected to beatings, torture and starvation. In every sense of the word, Boyington is an American hero.
Well guess what? From 1930–1934, Boyington was a student at the University of Washington and graduated with a degree in Aeronautical Engineering. 60+ years later, there was a move to consider erecting a memorial to Boyington on the campus of UW. Enter the UW student government Pinheads. Idiots without remorse; losers without a clue. It seems that the student government shot down the proposal for various unimaginable reasons. For starters, student senator Jill Edwards said that she “didn’t believe a member of the Marine Corps was an example of the sort of person UW wanted to produce.” In other words, Marines are unworthy to be UW students.
On the heels of Edwards’ stupidity, another student senator, Ashley Miller, stated that, “many monuments at UW already commemorate rich white men.” Too bad Boyington grew up pretty poor and happened to be half Sioux Indian. Miller, failing to resist the urge to look even dumber, further asked “whether it was appropriate to honor a person who killed other people.” (Gee, wasn’t George Washington a soldier?) Next, student senator Karl Smith, you know the guy who got beat up every day for his lunch money and was picked last for every sport he ever played, well Karl decided that perhaps they could make a monument but not mention destroying enemy aircraft. That way he could be recognized but not “his killing of others.” If you are going to honor a Medal of Honor winning fighter pilot, exactly how can you not mention those feats that earned him that medal?
Again, this is almost too much for me to grasp. According to the non-critical thinking lefties, Donald Trump “is an anti-Semite” but his beloved daughter converted to Judaism and is married to a Jewish man who is one of President Trump’s most trusted advisors. President Bush hated blacks and blew up the levies in New Orleans in order to kill blacks yet his black pastor was the man tapped to marry Bush’s very white daughter. I saw yesterday where a Walking Dead T-shirt was pulled from a store because it showed Negan’s bloody bat with the words, “Eenie, meenie, minee, mo.” Racist! You cannot say that because of how it was once used. Yet you have Congresswoman Maxine Waters calling all of President Trump’s cabinet a bunch of “scumbags” and you have Muslim Congressman, Keith Ellison, as one of the front runners to chair the DNC and yet he has or supposedly had direct ties to the clearly, loudly vocal anti-Semite Louis Farrakhan. In a real question of racism, how could any Jewish person not revolt at the idea of this man leading their party?
The point is when we conjure up fake instances of racism, when real cases crop up, it is like the boy crying wolf. Nobody is going to listen. Why should they. Also, the term “racist” is way overdone. People need to stop throwing this word around in cases where it is not warranted and fight hard for situations where it is a real problem. Not just a problem in somebody’s imagination.
