The people's voice of reason
Do you believe that certain days throughout your life are anointed? That God has an unexpected blessing meant just for you that day?? Boy, I sure do! And one of those blessed days occurred ten years ago this month.
“Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.” Proverbs 3: 5-6
Although I had completed my reign as Ms. Wheelchair America/Alabama 2005, the next year I was still receiving request to make personal appearances and to speak at events. On a beautiful, sunny day in June of 2006, I traveled to Troy University located in Troy, Alabama to speak at an innovative, intensive, five-day career leadership training program for high school juniors and seniors with disabilities from throughout the State of Alabama called Alabama Governor's Youth Leadership Forum. When I arrived I was greeted by a handsome gentleman named Brian who would be speaking along-side of me on the Independent Living Panel. Brian has the same disability that I have (Cerebral Palsy) but his affects him a little differently than me. Like me, he has never allowed his disability to serve as a barrier to living life to its fullest.
I had no idea that attending this wonderful program would end up changing my life (and last name!). After all, I was there to share my story and hopefully make a positive difference.
After my day at the program was over, Brian contacted me and we began dating. As we grew closer and closer, I knew he was “The One” and he knew I was his “Miss Wright”. We married about two years later.
Each year Brian and I celebrate the day we met…thanking God for the blessing of bringing us together. We affectionately refer to this day as our “met’cha” day.
Happy “Met’Cha” Day, Brian!! I love you!
Many Blessings!
