  • Alabama outlasts the University of South Florida

    Brandon Moseley|Sep 1, 2024

September 9, 2024 - the University of Alabama had its' hands full on Saturday with the University of South Florida. For three and a half quarters the final outcome of the game was very much in doubt before Alabama pulled away and added some exclamation point touchdowns in the final five minutes of the game in Bryant-Denny Stadium. Legendary Tide Coach Nick Saban was on hand on Saturday as Alabama named their field after him. It will still be Bryant Denny Stadium but the field will be Saban Field...

  • California outperforms Auburn

    Brandon Moseley|Sep 1, 2024

On Saturday, the Auburn Tigers played a better team and were beaten on the field 21 to 14. Auburn's defense limited Cal to just fourteen points in three quarters of action; but the offense just never could get on track. Auburn scored its first touchdown early in the first quarter with three crisp pass completions and then did very little offensively until the fourth quarter. Cal's Fernando Mendoza had a much better game than Auburn's Payton Thorne. Mendoza had two touchdown passes and 233 yards...

  • Alabama Gazette panel missed on the Auburn and Kentucky games

    Brandon Moseley|Sep 1, 2024

The Alabama Gazette panel had a largely successful week during week two of the college football season. The Berkley Bears coming to Auburn and stifling the Tigers offense was surprising to the panel. Only Christopher Peeks correctly predicted that one. The South Carolina would thoroughly dominate Kentucky Wildcats shocked the panel. The panel was divided on the Arkansas versus Oklahoma State game. That was proven correct by Oklahoma State narrow victory. In the Arkansas versus Oklahoma State...

  • Auburn cruises to victory over New Mexico

    Brandon Moseley|Sep 1, 2024

Auburn improved to 2 and 1 on Saturday at Jordan-Hare Stadium with a blowout win over New Mexico 45 to 19. Auburn opened the first two games of the season with Senior Payton Thorne starting at quarterback; but after week two's disappointing offensive performance in the home loss to California at Berkley Coach Hugh Freeze made a change at quarterback. Freeze announced on Friday that freshman quarterback Hank Brown would be the starter against New Mexico. That gamble by the coaching staff paid big...

  • Alabama destroys Wisconsin

    Brandon Moseley|Sep 1, 2024

It was billed as Bama's toughest test yet- a SEC powerhouse program versus one of the historically top 4 or 5 Big 10 programs. What it turned out to be was another tune-up game ahead of the University of Alabama's Southeastern Conference opener. The Tide journeyed all the way to Madison Wisconsin and thoroughly throttled the outmanned Badgers 42 to 10. It was Coach Kalen DeBoer's third win as the Tide's head coach and it was utter domination. The Tide defense was pushed on the first drive by...

  • Georgia underwhelms in week three

    Brandon Moseley|Sep 1, 2024

The Alabama Gazette panel correctly picked that Georgia would defeat Kentucky; but most of us thought that Georgia would win it by four touchdowns. The hard fought defensive contest that they actually played in the third week of the SEC season was entirely unanticipated by most of the staff. The staff was divided on the LSU versus South Carolina game and we were correct in that game could have gone either way. Most of the panel failed to predict Toledo's dominance over Mississippi State. More...

The UAB Blazers football team traveled to Arkansas on September 14 and picked up their second loss of the season. • Auburn football season is on the brink after second loss

    Brandon Moseley|Sep 1, 2024

Auburn has played four opponents. They crushed SWAC Alabama State (2-1), lost to the University of California, beat (0-3) New Mexico, and now have been defeated by their first SEC opponent in Arkansas (3-1) 24 to 14. It was Auburn's second five turnover performance and Auburn's second disappointing home loss. Auburn though they had their quarterback situation settled moving forward after the win over New Mexico. Nothing could be further from the truth in the wake of Saturday's performance at...

  • Auburn disappoints Alabama Gazette panel in week 4

    Brandon Moseley|Sep 1, 2024

Auburn stepped up in competition to open SEC play versus Arkansas and the wheels came off. This shocked most of the Alabama Gazette panel – who outside of the Tigers' lackluster performance had a good week picking Southeastern Conference football games in week four. The SEC games of the week were: Florida won at Mississippi State 45 to 28 Ohio lost at Kentucky 6 to 41 Arkansas won at Auburn 24 to 14 UCLA lost at LSU 17 to 34 Vanderbilt lost at Missouri 27 to 30 Akron lost at Sout Carolina 7 t...

  • Alabama Gazette panel picks SEC week five

    Brandon Moseley|Sep 1, 2024

The SEC conference season is heating up this week with both Alabama and Auburn hosting major SEC opponents. Most people have Alabama and Georgia as two of the best three teams in the conference. The two play in Tuscaloosa this week for supremacy and that coveted first track spot towards going to Atlanta for the SEC Championship game. Auburn (2-2) faces its toughest opponent yet when Oklahoma comes to the Plains on Saturday. The SEC games of the week are: Kentucky at Ole Miss Arkansas at Texas...

  • Auburn loses again – falls to 0 and 2 in the conference

    Brandon Moseley|Sep 1, 2024

On Saturday, Oklahoma came to Jordain-Haire and came away with their first Southeastern Conference victory 27 to 21. Oklahoma scored a touchdown on their first possession with a 48 yard quarterback run by Michael Hawkins. Auburn dominated the first half, but only came away with 14 points, due to a failed attempt on a 4th and goal from the 1 yard line and a missed field goal. Those 10 lost points from the first half loomed large over the Tigers in the second half. Senior Quarterback Peyton...

  • Trump's Visit to the Georgia v. Alabama Game

    Luisa Reyes|Sep 1, 2024
    1

Both Alabama fans and Georgia fans turned out in masse to attend the Georgia v. Alabama football game in Tuscaloosa on Saturday, September 28th, 2024. A highly anticipated game since the beginning of the college football season since it presented the first real test for the new Alabama Head Coach, Kalen DeBoer, against another SEC powerhouse. The profile for the Alabama v. Georgia football game was raised even higher with the announcement that former President and current Presidential...

  • Navy was just too physical for UAB

    Brandon Moseley|Sep 1, 2024

On Saturday, Navy defeated UAB in Birmingham 41 to 18. It was UAB's first American Athletic Conference game. UAB's defense simply could not stop Navy on the ground or in the air as the Midshipmen ran the ball for 227 yards against the Blazers on 42 carries averaging 5.4 yards per rush. The Navy also had 225 yards through the air on just 9 receptions out of 11 attempts. Navy had a 21 to 3 lead at halftime and never trailed in the game. UAB was its own worst enemy accumulating 11 penalties for...

  • Ole Miss losing shocks Alabama Gazette Panel

    Brandon Moseley|Sep 1, 2024

The Alabama Gazette college football panel had a relatively good week picking Southeastern Conference games in week 5. Kentucky beating Ole Miss did shake the panel up a good bit – only Sam Adams had that one right. Alabama over Georgia was the game of the week and it came down to the last minute. Unfortunately Auburn's descent into the abyss has become accepted so most of the panel had predicted Oklahoma's victory over Auburn. The SEC games of week 5 were: Kentucky won at Ole Miss 20 to 17 A...

  • The Texas State at Troy Game 2024 ~ Bobcats outpace the Trojans.

    Trenton Garmon|Sep 1, 2024

Under the lights of Veterans Memorial Stadium before a collective crowd of about 20,000 people with national sports media live streaming from iconic Troy, the Bobcats outpaced the Trojans resulting in a 38 to 17 win for Texas State in the teams 13th meeting. The two teams began play in 1997 and for only the second time - the Bobcats left Troy with a well-deserved win. In effect, outmanning and outpacing the young Trojans. In essence, Troy is rebuilding depth on both offense and defense. The...

    Brandon Moseley|Sep 1, 2024

The week six SEC games are: Missouri at Texas A&M Auburn at Georgia Alabama at Vanderbilt Tennessee at Arkansas Ole Miss at South Carolina UCF at Florida The Alabama Gazette panel consists of: Brandon Moseley,...

  • Auburn predictably falls to 2 and 4 in Athens

    Brandon Moseley|Sep 1, 2024

Saturday ended as virtually everyone predicted beforehand – with the Hugh Freeze led Auburn Tigers losing to the Georgia Bulldogs. Auburn falls to 0 and 3 in the Southeastern conference and 2 and 4 overall. The Tigers could – in theory – rally down the stretch and win 5 of their last 6 to end the year with a winning record and salvage a trip to the Music City Bowl. That scenario seems awfully unlikely to anybody who was watching the game Saturday. Auburn's offense struggled to finish drive...

  • Vanderbilt ends Tide's reign at number 1

    Brandon Moseley|Sep 1, 2024

Last week, the Alabama Crimson Tide had its greatest victory of the new Kalen DeBoer era when the Tide vanquished the Georgia Bulldogs. On Saturday, Alabama lost to Vanderbilt for the first time since 1984 – when the late Ray Perkins was the head coach. Tide fans – and college football fans in general – are left wondering which is the real Tide team – the one that outlasted and outfought Georgia or the one that could not stop the Vanderbilt Commodores from scoring at will in a monumen...
