Alabama Republican Party salutes legislature for conservative bills passed

April 8, 2025 – HOOVER, AL - After a week-long recess, members of the Alabama Legislature returned to work last week, with the $3.7 billion General Fund Budget passing the Alabama House.

The Alabama Republican Party on Thursday congratulated the members of the legislature who were honored as ALGOP Defenders of Freedom at the Trump Victory Dinner in Birmingham featuring Donald Trump Jr.. The 2025 Defender of Freedom Award recipients are:

Representative Donna Givens & Senator Lance Bell - Sound of Freedom Act (toughest human trafficking bill in the nation)

Representative Danny Garrett & Senator Arthur Orr - The CHOOSE Act (school choice)

Representative Jamie Kiel & Senator Garlan Gudger - Ballot Harvesting Ban

Representative Ed Oliver & Senator Will Barfoot - DEI and Divisive Concepts Ban

Representative Matt Woods & Senator April Weaver - The Alabama Child Protection Act (online predators)

Representative Matt Woods & Senator Greg Reed - Parents Right to Know Act (curriculum transparency)

Representative Scott Stadthagen & Senator Arthur Orr - SB231 (union recognition without a worker vote)

These were for bills passed in the 2024 Alabama Legislative session – a session which was marred by a fractious gambling bill that angered many; but failed to pass.
