    On Friday, Alabama Department of Labor Secretary Fitzgerald Washington announced today that Alabama's labor force participation rate was unchanged for the month of May at 57.5%. The national average in May was 62.5%. Alabama edged out Kentucky, New Mexico, West Virginia, and Mississippi with 57.2%, 57.1%, 55.5%, and 53.8% respectively. South Carolina was also at 57.5%.
